Generic Azilect or Rasagiline is used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Rasagiline or Generic Azilect is a monoamine oxidase-B (MAO-B) inhibitor. It effectively works by raising the levels of positive chemicals in the brain. Azilect is often used with one more drug called levodopa. The signs of Parkinsons disease arise when dopamine, a neurotransmitter that helps with cognition and motor skills, is unable to arrive at the brain. There are a number of factors that cause the blockage dopamine. One reason is the existence of monoamine oxidase enzymes in the brain. Rasagiline is approved for patients at every stage of Parkinsons disease; but it is more effective when it is given to patients at the early stage of disease.
